In "Death of Me" Christine (Maggie Q) and Neil (Luke Hemsworth) are a married couple, vacationing off the coast of picturesque Thailand. On their last day in paradise, they awake very hungover with no memory of the previous night, their phones and passports both missing. The couple finds footage from the previous night on Neil’s camera, and watch, horrified, as Neil appears to murder Christine. Unable to board the ferry without their passports, they attempt to reconstruct the night's events.

Christine and Neil hear a typhoon is headed their way but will soon discover, a tropical storm is the least of their worries. Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman who is probably best known for the "Saw" franchise,"Death of Me" begins like "The Hangover," and transforms into something of the folk horror variety, reminiscent of films like "The Wicker Man" and "Midsommar." While it's a story we've certainly heard versions of before and a few of the plot points do not add up, I'm not usually bothered by those details.

Beautiful cinematography, arresting visuals and a fast-paced story kept me engaged throughout. If you're looking for a horror film to watch while you unwind from a long day, "Death of Me" is the perfect fit. It will keep you glued to the screen for 93 minutes with ample opportunity to sneak in some Instagram scrolling or a few texts. It's scary and compelling yet simple enough to let your mind wander for a few minutes, without losing track of what's happening on screen.
